review : Google Nexus One

Google Nexus One
The Google Nexus is One is one of the most hyped mobile phones before its release date. But the phone's hardware and software makes it one of the best android phones around.

Stand-out Features
The mobile has a 1GHz processor that is pretty quick and a 512 MB RAM to support it. A gorgeous 3.7-AMOLED screen that displays 800x480 pixels and its capacitive touch does the business for a user's delight. Its tiny micro SD slot is capable of storing 32 GB. It has got a gorgeous 5-megapixel camera that features 720x480 video capturing @ 20FPS, LED flash, a dual microphone for noise cancellation and a trackball. All the keyboard activities has to be carried on in the virtual on-screen keyboard. On papers, all these features seem to be very good.

The Design Talks
The Nexus One is a very good looking phone that is made of a metallic bezel surrounding the front and side of the phone. The battery cover of the phone is made of a rubbery plastic that feels solid. The phone feels thinner, lighter and curvier than the iphone.

It has the power button and volume button and five other buttons with a track pad below them. The four touch buttons on the phone are used for back, menu and search options. These touch are not expected to be very responsive all the time.

The Software Sizzles
The phone features Android 2.1 OS, the first one to do it. It is expected that in the days to come many phones will follow up using this software. You may find a few animated wallpapers as soon as you switch on the phone. As Gizmodo puts it, there is absolutely no use of these wallpapers which does nothing but drain the phone battery. It also points out that there are several other features in the Nexus that are exaggerated. The technology website (Gizmodo) also feels that google could have spent more of its time in improving the speed and performance.

However there are a number of things in the phone that can be welcomed with both the arms stretched. The all new beta-ish version of voice recolonization that allows you to type almost anything through your voice. The voice recolonization works very well provided you speak slowly and clearly. Almost 80% of the time it works except for a few common Proper Noun words. However the drawback here is that this feature works only online. The virtual keypads offered are not so easy to use when compared to the likes of the iPhones.

The Real Beauty of the Device
The device works really fast thanks to its 1 GHz processor All the services of Google, work pretty fast like the Google Mapping, Gmailing, and other services. There are two microphones, one on the bottom and the other on the back for noise cancellation. These microphones make sure that the call quality of the phone is very good and noise cancellation is effective.

The speaker at the back of the phone is pretty good though not very impressive. The camera is well suited for fast picture takes. It 5-mega-pixel feature is expected to shoot decent pictures thus living upto its expectations.

The Google Nexus is still the best Android phone available in the market. While the current Google phone has been handled by HTC, there are several debates as to who would be launching the Nexus 2 of Google. Well, it seems more likely that HTC itself would rise its hands again.

Samsung Galaxy Note II is now official, sports a new S Pen

The Samsung Galaxy Note II is now official. The second generation of the highly popular phoneblet made its debut at the Samsung pre-IFA press conference and confirmed most of the rumors from the past few weeks.

The Samsung Galaxy Note II is built around a 5.5" Super AMOLED screen of 1280 x 720 resolution (down from the 1280 x 800 resolution of the original Note). The Exynos 4 Quad chipset has its quad-core CPU clocked at 1.6GHz, coupled with 2 GB of RAM and a beefy 3,100 mAh battery on board. The Note II is actually thinner than its predecessor at 9.4 mm (the Galaxy Note is 9.65 mm thick). There's an 8 MP camera on the back and a 1.9 MP one on the front.

The S-Pen has been redesigned too - it's longer and thicker making it more ergonomic and has learned some cool new tricks. One of them is dubbed Air View, which allows you to hover the S Pen over an email, the gallery, video, etc. to preview the content without the need to actually open the app. In addition, the S Pen is capable of a new gesture called Quick Command, which lets users quickly activate frequently used apps.
The Samsung Galaxy Note II will come with support for both HSPA+ and 4G LTE. It will have 16 GB,32 GB and 64 GB storage options with a microSD card slot available on each of them.
The Samsung Galaxy Note II will ship in Europe this October, but its pricing is yet to be revealed. US and worldwide availability will follow shortly afterwards.
In development...

Samsung Galaxy S II Plus pictures leak

A Chilean carrier VTR has what it claims to the Galaxy S II Plus on its website, complete with pictures and a spec page

The phone looks strangely identical to the T-Mobile version of the Galaxy S II (T989). In fact, if you go through the spec sheet of the S II Plus, you will find more similarities, such as a 4.52-inch, 800 x 480 resolution Super AMOLED Plus display, 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal memory, microSD card slot and an 8 megapixel camera.
The Galaxy S II Plus is said to be running on Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, something that the T989 did not.
VTR has also linked to the T-Mobile page of the T989 Galaxy S II as the official page, which makes us sure that this is nothing but a rebranded version of the T989 for the international markets. That is assuming this phone is for the international market, which seems strange as other than the slightly bigger display this phone is not much better than the original Galaxy S II at all to warrant the 'Plus' tag.

review : HTC Desire HD

The HTC Desire HD is for those who prefer power over compactness. Yes, this phone is a power-packed smart phone.

 The Display
The HTC desire has a monstrous 3.7-inch screen with WVGA 480x800 pixels. Though a big screen, the HTC does not show any signs of blur. The touch screen is fast and is extremely responsive. The text on the screen is said to be of an easy-to-read quality.

 The physical build up
The phone is made up of an aluminium case that is well built and feels solid in one's hand. But the huge screen with a metal make will also mean that the phone is a bit heavy weighing 164 grams. The touch sensitive button in the centre is supposed to be extremely sensitive as it is the heart of the operations.

 The Software
The widgets available does a great job of displaying live data with an option of seven home screens. Widgets for calendar contacts, clock and others are said to be very attractive and has the most stylish way of displaying upcoming schedules and other things.

Social networking is also expected to be excellent. The contacts of the phone are linked to the facebook or twitter or any activated social networking application. When you get a call, the phone displays the status of the person as in the case of the social networking software.

Some of the many features offered by the phone may be exaggerated to some people but never the less, it still is flooded with features. For example, the phone automatically turns on its speaker phone mode as you place it back face up. Now for those simple users who do not want these features can always turn them off.

The phone runs on the Android software. The Android being Google's own software does offer a lot of Google products like the Google Maps and many other services. CNET, a popular gadget review website, says that the HTC Desire HD is the best phone for online freaks. The software and the web browser is also upto the mark displaying pages pretty quickly and accurately. The desire also supports Flash Player 10 which ensures smooth and complete downloading of pages. This phone can be compared with the Samsung Nexus S for its internet capabilities.

All this packaged power would also mean that the battery life of the device is below par. There is a power saver mode that will warn you when the battery goes down below the 15% mark.

Again the phone is a very good portable mini computer and a good entertainer if you do not mind its bulky and weighty nature. But you can also consider the HTC Sensation or the HTC Wildfire.

Next gen iPhone to allegedly go on pre-order on September 12

Last month we reported that the next generation iPhone is said to be unveiled on September 12. Now according to the latest information, once again courtesy iMore, the next iPhone will be available for pre-order on the very same day.

This is an interesting change because if you look at the previous iPhone launches, the phone went on sale several days after it was announced by Apple. The strategy of releasing the product on the same day as launch is synonymous with Apple's computers and not their mobile devices (except for the iPods).
iMore is also reporting that apart from going on sale on September 12 in the US, the new iPhone will hit international markets in the first week of October, around October 5.

Sony Xperia Tablet photos emerge, show likely release date

New photos which further reveal the look of the leaked Sony Xperia Tablet have hit the web. As expected, the slate does carry the unique "wedge" design of the Sony Tablet S, but does so in a thinner body.

The Xperia Tablet is going to rock a Magnesium-Aluminium body, thus helping to bring its weight to 570 grams. The 9.4-inch display with 1280x800-pixel resolution remains unchanged from the Tablet S.
We find a lot of other changes under the hood. The Xperia slate is said to rock Nvidia's Tegra 3 SoC, probably running at 1.3GHz. At the back, there's an 8MP snapper, while a 1MP unit takes care for video chatting at the front.
The Sony Xperia Tablet will come in 16/32/64GB variants, expandable via the microSD card slot. The battery is 6000mAh and will keep the slate going for 10 straight hours.
Expected to be unveiled at Sony's pre-IFA event on August 29 and launched later in September, the Xperia Tablet is said to cost $399.99, $499.99 and $599.99 for the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB model respectively.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to sport an ultra-thin, flexible AMOLED

Thus far, Samsung has successfully managed to keep the Galaxy Note 2 in the shadows and the only thing close to certain is its 5.5-inch AMOLED display.
KoreaTimes just came to back this claim and even went on to suggest the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will utilize a 5.5-inch flexible AMOLED display. It's highly unlikely for the whole phone to be bendable, rather it suggests that the Note 2 will have a slight curve of some sort.
The AMOLED in question uses a Unbreakable Plane (UBP) and plastic substrate helping it reduce its thickness by 0.4mm. This may not sound like much, but on a 5.5" screen, the space saved is enough for Samsung to employ a far larger battery without making the Note 2 any thicker than its predecessor.
Samsung's Unpacked event on August 29, where the company is expected to unveil the Galaxy Note 2, is fast approaching. And if KoreaTimes's info turns out to be true, the Note 2 will make quite a stir at the IFA expo in Berlin.

BLU announces the VIVO 4.3 dual-core, dual-SIM smartphone

Following the (large) footsteps of the Studio 5.3 Android smartphone BLU Products announced the VIVO 4.3. The Android Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone offers dual-core, dual-SIM functionality, to go with good looks and low price tag.

The BLU VIVO 4.3 features a dual-core Cortex-A9 CPU and MediaTek MT6577 chipset. The GPU is PowerVR SGX531. There's a gig of RAM and 4GB of built-in memory which can be further expanded via microSD card.
One of the most pleasant surprises in the BLU VIVO 4.3's spec sheet is the presence of a 4.3" Super AMOLED Plus display with WVGA resolution. An 8MP camera with 720p video recording, 1600mAh battery and customizable Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich complete the highlights of the device's spec sheet.
The BLU VIVO 4.3 will hit the shelves of major US retailers in September, priced at the sweet $249.99 without contract. Latin America and parts of Asia will soon follow.
