WP8-powered HTC Windows Phone 8X goes official

HTC's event is underway and we just got to see the company's first two Windows Phone 8 handsets, with the HTC Windows Phone 8X being the flagship.
Unlike the Titan, the HTC Windows Phone 8X is rather compact with its 4.3" 720p screen. It measures 132.4 x 66.2 x 10.1mm and weighs 130g. The HTC Windows Phone 8X (now that's a mouthful) uses a polycarbonate unibody, similar to that of the One X.

Going back to the screen, it's a Super LCD 2 unit with Gorilla Glass 2 protection and it's laminated to reduce glare.
The HTC Windows Phone 8X is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset with two Krait cores clocked at 1.5GHz, Adreno 225 GPU and 1GB of RAM. It runs Microsoft's latest phone OS, Windows Phone 8 (as the name quite clearly indicates).
The camera on the back should be familiar to HTC users - 8MP BSI sensor, f/2.0 aperture and 28mm field of view (in 35mm terms). It contains a dedicated HTC ImageChip and can shoot 1080p video with stereo sound.
There's a 2.1MP front-facing camera too, which can also record1080p videos and makes use of the ImageChip.
Having mentioned sound, HTC has included its trademark Beats Audio sound enhancement, but no Beats headset as is the norm with some of its Android phones.
The HTC Windows Phone 8X comes with 16GB of built-in storage, which you can expand with a microSD card.
For connectivity, the HTC's WP8 flagship relies on dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, NFC, Bluetooth 2.1, microUSB and 3.5mm audio jack.
The Windows Phone 8X will become available in the beginning of November, covering 150 major carriers in 50+ countries, but HTC's press release was mum on price. There will be four color versions - California Blue, Graphite Black, Flame Red and Limelight Yellow.

Evolio Aria Unboxing – Dual Core Tablet From Romania Gets Unboxed (Video)

If you’re looking for a cheap tablet that also packs a decent punch, we’ve just received for testing the Evolio Aria, a tablet under Romanian branding. Evolio is an East European brand that has shown us other tablets, but this is their first dual core attempt. The Evolio Aria comes in a brightly coloured big box, that’s shown below and we’ve got an unboxing video as well.

The device goes for 220 euro, runs Android 4.0.3 and features a 9.7 inch IPS display with a 1024 x 768 pixel resolution. Inside there’s a dual core AMLOGIC processor and we’ve also got a Mali 400 MP GPU on board. Inside the box we find the manual, USB cable, charger and an USB adapter that connects to the microUSB port and allows you to connect a dongle or USB drive. The slate measures 9.9 mm in thickness, weighs 600 grams and also brings a HDMI port and microSD card slot.
It even throws in infrared connectivity, plus a 2 megapixel camera at the back and a front 0.3 megapixel camera. The device has 16 GB of storage and 1 GB of DDR 3 RAM, plus it comes with a 5 year warranty. The first impressions are great, as the tablet is very fluid in operation, but we’ll be back with more in the following days, as we review the product.

Motorola DROID RAZR HD developer edition gets outed

In a quiet fashion Motorola has released a developer edition of its latest and greatest DROID RAZR HD smartphone, sporting a bootloader which can be unlocked. The handset is destined for users with a knack for flashing custom ROMs, as well as those who don't like Verizon's take on Android.

There is no release date set for the headset. A sign up page however is up and running for the overly anxious. Expect a hefty price tag and lack of warranty when the Motorola DROID RAZR HD Developer Edition becomes available.

News Verizon Galaxy Note II allegedly gets pictured

The Galaxy Note II has long been rumored to be in the works Stateside for both AT&T and Verizon, and some images of what looks to be a Verizon version have popped up.

The images look legitimate save for the Verizon logo on the home button, which looks a bit like overkill if they indeed turn out to be the real deal.
The back sports a less pretentious “Verizon 4G LTE” logo, which, of course, indicates that it will run on Verizon’s hyperfast LTE network.
No word yet on when a Verizon-branded version will go retail, but we’ll be sure to let you know when we hear more.

Motorola DROID RAZR HD goes official, MAXX version in tow

      http://www.oled-info.com/files/images/Motorola-Droid-RAZR-HD.img_assist_custom-350x294.jpg
Motorola is pushing forward with the second generation of its DROID RAZR family brand and just announced the Motorola DROID RAZR HD. The trademark slender body of the handset has been changed up a big, but it's still more compact than a Samsung Galaxy S III or HTC One X.
The RAZR HD measures 131.9 x 67.9 x 8.4mm and weighs 146g, so it's thicker than the previous one, but the thickness is more uniform.
As the name suggests, the DROID RAZR HD has a larger 4.7" edge-to-edge Super AMOLED display of 720p resolution.

The back of the device is again made of Kevlar, but this time it wraps around the edges of the headset too. The camera here is an 8MP snapper with 1080p video recording and LED flash.
The RAZR HD is powered by a Qualcomm chipset with a dual-core Krait CPU, 1GB RAM and Adreno 225 GPU. It will be running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box. It will be upgraded to Jelly Bean later on - of course, Motorola is a Google company and we expected nothing less.

Chrome will come pre-installed on the new DROID RAZRs, and Motorola was keen to point out how fast it is.
The battery on the Motorola DROID RAZR HD is 2,530mAh, so battery life should still be good with the power-efficient 28nm Qualcomm cores. For example, it offers 16 hours of talk time.
There will be a Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD too, with the same 3,300mAh battery as the previous version. It measures 131.9 x 67.9 x 9.3mm and weighs 157g. Battery life is listed as up to 21 hours of talk time, 27 hours of music streaming and 10 hours of video streaming. Impressive indeed.

Other interesting features on the HD include NFC connectivity, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and an HDMI port. The RAZR HD will have 16GB of built-in memory, while the RAZR MAXX HD will have double that. Both have microSD card slots.
The LTE-touting Motorola Droid RAZR HD and RAZR MAXX HD will launch on Verizon before the holidays. There will be a GSM version of the RAZR HD too, but not the RAZR MAXX HD for now.

Images of a cancelled Nokia MeeGo prototype have emerged

Images of a cancelled Nokia MeeGo sporting prototype have emerged, showing us what life after the already iconic N9 could have been. Dubbed as Nokia "Lauta" RM-742, the fully functional hardware QWERTY device was originally pegged as an immediate successor of the Nokia N9.

The specs of the leaked Nokia were reportedly identical as those found in the N9, save for the hardware keyboard. The latter makes the device an even closer relative to the developer centric Nokia N950. The Nokia "Lauta" was originally scheduled for release in Q4 of 2011.

Bloomberg Confirms iPad Mini, Mentions AU Optronics, LG Display as Screen Suppliers

The rumors about the iPad Mini continue, this time with Bloomberg confirming some of them, especially those related to the screens used on the new device. The smaller iPad is once again supposed to come in October, according 4 people familiar with the matter. TPK Holding Co and Yeh Cheng Technology, a subsidiary of Foxconn will offer the lamination coating of the 7.85 inch tablet.

This info is confirmed by the same 4 people who wanted to remain anonymous. The iPad Mini is supposed to be the answer the new Windows 8 tablets and the Amazon Kindle Fires, that are coming soon, the second generation. AU Optronics is involved for the first time in making screens for Apple handheld devices, after traditionally providing panels for MacBooks and Sony’s TVs. Apple declined to comment on the matter and in other news Sharp is also on board with the product, making a future batch of displays for the tablets.
Apple shipped 17 million iPads in Q2 and reached a 70% market share for that time frame, courtesy of the release of the new iPad, with its Retina Display. Analysts expect a competitively priced Amazon Kindle Fire 2 to take over the market over the following weeks and Apple may rule the holidays, if they offer the iPad Mini at a reasonable price point. We’ll see about that…

Mysterious HTC phone leaks, looks the flagship part

After posting a rather quiet IFA showcase, it appears that HTC has something major in the works for the immediate future. A couple of blurry shots showing a mysterious handset made by the Taiwanese company have leaked out.

The device in the photos looks a lot like a future flagship for the company. It sports a clean design, Beats Audio livery and a red/black color scheme. Sadly, there's no info on its specifications. We can reasonably expect that they will be nothing but top shelf though.
It's no secret that HTC has been going through tough times lately. A new halo device, which is executed right can surely help the company turn its fortunes around. We'll certainly be keeping a close look on this one.
